Katy's STL Top 10
There are some things I'm going to truly miss about St. Louis. It's a city where you can really make something happen. The cost of living is hard to beat – even on a nonprofit salary. The food scene is surprisingly good, the art scene is super vibrant, and there are a lot of good people here.
As I prepare to leave this place, here are 10 random things that I'm going to miss about St. Louis:
- Missouri Botanical Garden's Whitaker Concert Series
- A summer staple! These free concerts are a perfect way to spend a Wednesday night and MoBot has been conveniently within walking distance the entire time I've lived in St. Louis.
- All the Donuts
- The ubiquity of mom-and-pop donut shops in St. Louis is a thing of beauty. Living in close proximity to World's Fair Donuts has been a highlight of my time in STL.
- Union Loafers' Little Gem Salad
- I don't think I've ever craved a salad before, but I definitely crave this one. Pairs well with the kale garbanzo soup. Grab a loaf of bread to go.
- City Museum
- It's one of the most magical places on earth and I love it so much. I've taken almost every out of town visitor here.
- Seeing So Much Art
- Saint Louis Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, the Pulitzer: all FREE. Plus The Luminary, Millitzer, Projects+Gallery, Intersect Arts Center, Reese Gallery, Flood Plain...there's always somewhere to go to see some great art.
- Tower Grove Park
- I spend my days working at Forest Park, but Tower Grove truly has my heart. I've spent so many hours walking the paths, reading on benches, and browsing the farmers' market.
- La Patisserie Chouquette
- As much as I love a .62¢ donut, the fancy pastries at Chouquette are a joy of my life. Opening Instagram on a Saturday morning basically guarantees a trip to Chouquette because how can you resist those perfect mille crêpe, religieuse, galletes...
- $5 Wednesday Night Movies at the Hi-Pointe
- This theatre has everything: cheap tickets, old timey charm, and reasonably priced popcorn. They use real butter, guys.
- Urban Breath Yoga
- I have successfully completed 5 yoga binges at Urban Breath, saving my sanity during stressful times AND improving my physical well being. Namaste.
- Seeing People I Know Almost Everywhere I Go
- Moving somewhere I've never been where I don't know a single person other than my partner has me feeling extra grateful for all the random encounters I have with friends and acquaintances. St. Louis really does feel like the smallest town.
