Hi, i’m katy.

I’ve been working with nonprofits for over a decade, at arts organizations, a park conservancy, and now in historic preservation. I believe in the power of storytelling and embracing complicated narratives. I strive to create programs that appeal to broad audiences while being true to an organization’s mission. In my current role as the Director of Communications for the Preservation League of NYS, I have the opportunity to engage a statewide audience, exploring different corners of the state to highlight a variety of things that make New York so special. New York is a large and diverse state, with incredible people doing amazing work for their communities everywhere you look. And I’ve had the privilege of looking in so many different places — from organizing public art in protest of reckless demolition in New York City to exploring a former church in Troy now home to an organization bridging science, art, and social justice. In my work, I strive to highlight just how intersectional preservation is, touching everything from climate action and affordable housing to design, economic development, and public history.

After receiving a degree in Art History from the State University of New York at New Paltz, I worked for several years at Dia: Beacon, pacing the galleries and stocking the bookshelves. I made my way to Pittsburgh and received a Master of Arts Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz School of Public Policy & Management. I made my way to St. Louis, MO, where I found myself and my husband. We moved to Schenectady, NY, in 2018, had our daughter, and are became enthusiastic Upstate boosters.
